Camera Vs Computer Upgrade: Which one should you get first?

Which system should I upgrade first? Camera or Computer. That’s a $1000 plus question that I hopefully could answer for you right now to day in this post. And I have two answers for you depends on which camp do you belong to. Let’s get started.

Camp A: Don’t have a camera

You need a camera to start time lapse photography. Yes you could used your smart phone but a smart phone is not built for time lapse photography. So my suggestion to you is get a proper camera and experiment with time lapse.

And by the way there’s other photography as well that you could do beside time lapse. Just enjoy photography in general. When the time comes that you need to learn about photo and video editing then you’re are set to joined Camp B.

Camp B: Have a camera and being doing photography and video for a while. Recently got hooked with time lapse photography.

My suggestion to you is spend your money upgrading your computing power. As a photographer and videographer you spend the majority of your time on a computer. So spend the money on a computer that could last you for a while.

The new Apple Mini M1 chip really got me excited to upgrade to a Mac computer. I am a PC user and with the price point of the Apple Mini M1 Chip, I could not build a PC to match the price and performance of the new Apple Chip.

If I have a choice I will upgrade to a new Mac for sure, but I’m a photographer first and I don’t have a camera with me. So I am in camp A. My decision will change over time though. Since I am making Youtube content as well, I need a snappy computer to edit photos and videos. So another 6-12 months I will join camp B.

Hope that answer some indecision for some of you out there. But I know people out there have the means to upgrade both system. And I don’t stop you in doing so.
